Senator representing Bayelsa East Senatorial district in the National Assembly, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce has proposed a solution to the incessant clashes between Fulani herdsmen and farmers in the country which has led to thousands of deaths.
According to Murray-Bruce, if the herdsmen stopped moving around looking for pasture, they will not encroach on farmlands, a situation that often lead to clashes in the northern part of the country.
“See how successful Zimbabwean farmers are with cattle ranching in Kwara. Let’s encourage Fulani to ranch cattle and end clashes with farmers,” the senator wrote on Twitter today.
Senate President Bukola had when he was governor of Kwara State invited white farmers displaced by the Zimbabwean government and offered them the opportunity to farm in the state.
Today, Shonga Farms Holding Limited (SFH) is a success story. Through its subsidiaries, it engages in mixed, dairy, and poultry farming. It produces commercial crops such as maize, rice, cassava, ginger, soya bean, milk and poultry meat. The company is an independent entity of its own, separate from the state government.
Among several other supply of food products, the farm supplies 2500 litres of raw milk to WAMCO, producers of Peak Milk, every day.
