The Senate has confirmed the nomination of Mr Olayemi Cardoso, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), as the chairman of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) ahead of its meeting on Monday.
Other members of the committee confirmed include CBN Deputy Governors Muhammad Sani Abdullahi, Bala M Bello, Emem Usoro, and Phillip Ikeazor.
Also confirmed are Lamido Yuguda, the Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC); Jafiya Lydia Shehu, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance; Murtala Sabo Sagagi, Director at the CBN; Alloycius Uche Ordu; Aku Pullen Odukemelu; Mustapha Akinwunmi; and Bandele A. G. Amoo.

The confirmation of their appointments followed the adoption of the report of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and other Financial Institutions, chaired by Senator Adetokunbo Abiru (APC Lagos East) during plenary.
Senator Abiru highlighted the nominees’ academic qualifications, technical knowledge, and professional experience, noting that no petitions were received against their nominations, and they were all cleared by security agencies.
Deputy Senate President, Senator Jibrin Barau, commended the committee for its thoroughness in addressing the challenges facing the nation’s economy, stating that the nominees have outstanding track records and pedigrees suitable for the job.
Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, praised the committee for its expeditious attention to the president’s request, highlighting the nominees’ experience, qualifications, and expertise as fitting choices for MPC membership.
He also commended President Tinubu for appointing individuals with the necessary skills to help stimulate the country’s economy for accelerated growth and development.
