The Senate has at plenary felicitate with Nigerians on the occasion of the 15th Democracy Day celebration.
The motion for the felicitation which was sponsored by Senator Victor Ndoma Egba and co-sponsored by all the Senators noted that Nigeria’s nascent democracy is maturing as she celebrates the fifteenth anniversary of her democracy 29th May, 2014.
The Senators were also satisfied that the country’s bastion of democracy, the National Assembly is steadily canalizing it’s practice and procedures in line with international best practices.
The Senate was confident that the developments in the transports sector, successes in Agriculture, promises in the power sector and the imminent passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill will transform Nigeria into an economic power.
The Senators were therefore, determined to enact legislation that would facilitate the Transformation Agenda and deliver bountiful dividends of democracy to her citizens and build a stronger bonds of unity.
The Senate accordingly resolved to congratulate the President, Commander in chief, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, all former Presidents and Heads of a States of Nigeria, the Legislature, the Executive, Judiciary and all Nigerians on the occasion of the 15th Democracy Day anniversary.
It also resolved to pay tribute to all those who are pillars of our collective democratic journey, and the Armed Forces who have steadfastly subordinated themselves to civil authority and therefore, urged Nigerians to unite in the prosecution of the war against terrorism and agents of instability and stand more resolved in one united and indivisible Nigeria under God.
