Top contenders for Senate presidency have agreed to work together and support one another if the All Progressives Congress (APC) decides to zone the seat to a particular region, reports Vanguard.

The two top contenders for the seat from the North East, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume and Senator Ahmad Lawan, have reportedly agreed to support each other after the contest. Ndume, from Borno State and another contender, Senator Bukola Saraki, from Kwara State, North Central, have also allegedly formed an alliance.

Vanguard learnt that the alliance between Saraki and Ndume is such that if APC decides not to change its initial position of zoning the Senate presidency to the North Central, Ndume would join forces with other members of the camp known as ‘The Like Minds’ to support Saraki. However, if the seat is zoned to the northeast, the same support will be accorded to Ndume by Saraki.

Ndume confirmed the peace pact among the contestants to Sunday Vanguard. According to him, the senators had agreed not to wash their dirty linen in the open, adding that what they have is one Senate and will only have one Senate President at the end of the day.

He noted that he and Lawan are like brothers and will continue to be so despite their individual aspirations to become Senate President.

Meanwhile, the Saraki camp is reported to be swelling with support. Apart from about seven senators from the south west and about 12 from the northeast, former governors who are now senators-elect are backing Saraki, who was once a member of the Nigeria Governors Forum.
