The Senate has at plenary today, 21st May, 2015 requested its Committees on Downstream and Off-stream to investigate the cause of the current fuel scarcity in the country and what the Government is doing about it.  The Committee is expected to submit its report Tuesday.

Relying on the Senate rule order 43 dealing with personal explanation, the Senate deputy leader, Senator Abdul Ningi queries the perennial fuel scarcity in the country and wonders if the situation has come to stay and become part of us.  He was shocked by the lack of information from Government quarters.

He therefore, prayed the Senate to request its Committee on Downstream and Off-stream to investigate the matter; a request which was adopted by the Senators.

The Senate also in the Committee of the whole received and considered the report of the Committee on Foreign Affairs on the screening of Chairman and members of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria and approved its recommendation.  The members were confirmed despite opposition from the Supreme Council on Islamic Affairs which questions the composition of the board and lack of consultation by the President.

Those confirmed include Abdullahi Muktar Muhammed, Chairman, Yusuf Adebayo Ibrahim, Executive Commissioner and Abdullahi Modibbo Saleh, Executive member.

Those confirmed as Commissioner in non-executive capacity are Alhaji Ibrshim Ezeani, Adeyemi Ademola Fuad, Alhaji Enewari Zikey, Hajiya Aisha Mohammed and Danjuma Salihu Usman.
