Senator Magnus Abe has announced his return to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Social Democratic Party (SDP), emphasizing that his defection will not create internal strife within the party.
Abe’s decision to leave the SDP and rejoin the APC comes after a period of disagreement with the former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, which led to his departure from the APC.
Despite his initial inability to secure the APC ticket, Abe later emerged as the gubernatorial candidate for the SDP in the 2023 elections.

Speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt, Abe reiterated his message of unity and collaboration, stating, “My message has been consistent that we all need to come together, work together to be able to harvest these expectations of our people.”
He further explained that his return to the APC is aimed at supporting the government of President Tinubu and ensuring that Rivers State is well represented in national development efforts.
Addressing concerns about potential conflicts within the APC due to his return, Abe dismissed speculations, highlighting his amicable relationship with Tony Okocha, the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the APC in Rivers State.
Abe emphasized that fostering peace within the party is a collective responsibility and expressed readiness to collaborate with all members to advance the APC’s agenda.
Abe stressed that his decision to rejoin the APC is based on his commitment as a founding member of the party and his support for President Tinubu’s vision for national development.
He urged all members of the APC to work together in the interest of the party’s progress, emphasizing the need for unity and cooperation to achieve common goals.
As Senator Abe re-enters the APC fold, his reassurances of a smooth transition and dedication to the party’s objectives signal a potential for renewed cohesion within the party in Rivers State.
His return may also indicate a broader trend of realignment and consolidation within Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of future elections.
