Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu has officially resumed office as the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), despite ongoing controversy surrounding the party’s national leadership.
According to Lancelot Obiaku, Publicity Secretary of the PDP Imo State Chapter, Anyanwu marked his resumption by inspecting the party’s national secretariat complex before addressing reporters who had gathered at his office.
Obiaku noted that Anyanwu’s arrival was met with applause from party members, staff, and a crowd of supporters present at the complex.

However, Anyanwu’s resumption comes in the wake of a contentious legal battle. A Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu had previously issued an order restraining him from parading himself as the PDP National Secretary.
Anyanwu, however, secured a stay of execution on the judgment, allowing him to retain his position pending further legal proceedings.
In a statement addressing the appeal court’s judgment, Anyanwu emphasized the legal principle that a stay of execution halts the enforcement of a judgment until the application is resolved.
Citing the Nigerian Court of Appeal ruling in Ogbunyanwa v. Okudo, he stated, “Once an application for stay of execution is filed and pending, it operates as a bar to the execution of the judgment, pending the determination of the application.”
Anyanwu confirmed that his application for a stay of execution remains pending in court and that he has escalated the matter to the Supreme Court, where a case number has already been assigned.
“I have not, in any way, shown a loss of interest in prosecuting the case.
As a result, my position as the National Secretary of the party remains sacrosanct. Any act that suggests otherwise or is calculated to undermine my position runs contrary to the law and cannot be condoned,” he declared.
The development adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing leadership disputes within the PDP, as legal and political maneuvers continue to shape the party’s future.
