Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on Mele Kolo Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), to disclose Nigeria’s daily oil production and export figures within seven working days.
Alleging that the NNPC Limited had not provided information on the quantity of oil produced and exported, SERAP also urged Kyari to reveal the portion of oil-generated revenues remitted to the public treasury since the subsidy removal on petrol.
In a letter signed by SERAP Deputy Director Kolawole Oluwadare, the organization emphasized the legitimate public interest in obtaining this information.

The letter stated, “Nigerians are entitled to the right to receive information without any interference or distortion, and the enjoyment of this right should be based on the principle of maximum disclosure, and a presumption that all information is accessible subject only to a narrow system of exceptions.”
Citing the Freedom of Information (FoI) Act 2011, SERAP maintained its right to request and gain access to information related to Nigeria’s daily oil production, export quantities, and the total revenues remitted to the public treasury.
SERAP argued that opacity in these figures would negatively impact the fundamental interests of citizens and the public interest.
The organization warned of potential legal actions if the NNPC did not respond within the stipulated seven days.
The call for transparency comes in the wake of former CBN Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi’s allegations that the NNPC was failing to remit sufficient foreign exchange into the treasury despite the fuel subsidy removal.
SERAP emphasized the NNPC’s legal obligation to promote transparency and accountability in disclosing daily oil production and export details.
