Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has started the season in spectacular form, scoring nine goals in his first five appearances. It’s a sharp reminder of the Argentine’s undoubted quality and value to the club. Here’s a reminder of some of his greatest moments…
vs. Swansea City 4-0, Premier League – Aug. 15, 2011
Aguero wasted no time in announcing himself to the Premier League with a brilliant double on his debut. The £38 million signing came off the bench in the 59th minute to tap in his first goal, then set up a goal for David Silva before firing in another from 25 yards.
vs. QPR 3-2, Premier League – May 13, 2012
Arguably the greatest moment in Premier League history came from Aguero’s boot. The Premier League title was heading to bitter rivals United when Aguero picked up the ball in injury time, exchanged passes with Mario Balotelli before drilling in a low show that ended City’s 44-year wait for the trophy on goal difference.
vs. Bayern Munich 3-2, Champions League – Nov. 25, 2014
A match when Guardiola would have been made truly aware of Aguero’s immense talent. The striker put City ahead against Guardiola’s side early on from the penalty spot before the German champions took a 2-1 lead. But Aguero struck two precision finishes in the final five minutes to complete a hat trick and steal the victory.
vs. Newcastle United 6-1, Premier League – Oct. 3, 2015
Aguero became only the fifth player in Premier League history to score five goals in a game when he single-handedly dismantled the Magpies with goals in the 42nd, 49th, 50th, 60th and 62nd minutes before being substituted on 66 minutes.
vs.Chelsea 3-0, Premier League – April 16, 2016
Last season was City’s worst since Aguero joined the club, but the striker showed his class with a brilliant hat trick at Stamford Bridge which proved critical in securing a place in the Champions League. He linked up brilliantly with Kevin De Bruyne to give a snapshot of what could be a potentially lethal partnership under Guardiola.
