Vice-President Kashim Shettima has described the six soldiers who lost their lives repelling a terrorist attack in Damboa, Borno State, as eternal heroes whose sacrifices will never be forgotten.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, on Friday in Abuja, Shettima expressed deep sorrow and solidarity with the families of the fallen soldiers.
He noted that while the military achieved a decisive victory in the ongoing counter-terrorism efforts, the price of freedom remains steep.
“It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I received news of our brave soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice defending our nation in Damboa,” Shettima said.
“These six valiant soldiers demonstrated exceptional courage in the face of danger by protecting their fellow citizens,” he added, commending their heroism as a reminder of the extraordinary price of peace and security.
Shettima reassured the grieving families that their loved ones did not die in vain, emphasizing that their sacrifices will forever be etched in the nation’s history and serve as an inspiration to future generations.
“These heroes died ensuring that their fellow Nigerians can live in safety, free from the scourge of insecurity that has impacted our country,” he said.
The vice president also pledged continued support for the armed forces, acknowledging their unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation, even at the cost of their lives.
“We will continue to support you and provide all necessary resources to ensure you can carry out your duties effectively,” Shettima assured.
He called on Nigerians to honor the fallen heroes by standing united in the collective pursuit of peace and security.
“May Allah grant our fallen heroes Aljannah Firdaus, comfort their families, and give us all the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” Shettima prayed.
