MILPITAS, CA–(Marketwired – Jan 6, 2014) – CES LAS VEGAS — Sigma Designs (NASDAQ: SIGM), a leading provider of System-on-Chip (SoC) solutions for home entertainment, connectivity and, converging multimedia delivery, today announced it would demonstrate 4K Ultra HD in conjunction with Harmonic, the worldwide leader in video delivery infrastructure, at 2014 CES International, Jan. 7-10, in Las Vegas. A critical feature of any high-end HDTV, Sigma and its industry partners have OEMs covered.
“At Sigma, we realize we need to anticipate the needs of the market and ensure our OEM customers are supported with the latest features and capabilities,” said Mustafa Ozgen, vice president and general manager Home Multimedia for Sigma Designs. “Our partnership and demonstration of 4K Ultra HD with Harmonic demonstrates this commitment to remaining at the cutting edge of the market, ensuring our OEM customers that we can deliver what they need when they need it.”
Sigma and Harmonic are demonstrating the first 4K Ultra HD 120-Hz broadcast workflow, powered by Harmonic’s ProMedia® Xpress transcoding software. It is a true Ultra HD video processor that supports input frame rates up to Ultra HD 60fps, and output frame rates up to Ultra HD 120fps.
Sigma’s Ultra HD TV Chipset uses only two chips, the SX6 UHD TV Application Processor and the FRCX Video Processor, to build a high performance and cost effective 120-Hz UltraHD TV that will be shown at Sigma Designs Suite 2990 at the Las Vegas Hotel.
“Harmonic is proud to be part of the first Ultra HD 120fps display demonstration using state of the art Ultra HD 60 fps encoding technology provided by ProMedia Xpress, and leveraging the newly defined HDMI 2.0 specification that will be widely deployed on Ultra HD 60-Hz TVs,” said Thierry Fautier vice president of Solutions Marketing at Harmonic.
ProMedia is the industry’s most complete multiscreen preparation solution and the market share leader in multiscreen software transcoding. Key features for the ProMedia family of integrated software applications include support for MPEG-DASH adaptive bit-rate streaming, HEVC encoding and the 4K Ultra HD video format, as well as increased synergy with the Harmonic MediaGrid™ shared storage system for the delivery of time-shifted TV services.
