LEADER OF ANTI-AMAECHI LAWMAKERS, EVANS BIPI
The six Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members in the Rivers State House of Assembly opposed to Governor Rotimi Amaechi, have thrown their weight behind President Goodluck Jonathan’s second term ambition.
The lawmakers, who are led by Evans Bapakaye Bipi representing Ogu/Bolo Constituency, include Martin Amaewhule representing Obio/Akpor Constituency I, Michael Okechukwu Chinda representing Obio/Akpor Constuency II.
Others are Victor Ihunwo representing Port-Harcourt Constituency III, Kelechi Nwogu representing Omuma Constituency and Ibani Ikuiyi representing Andoni Constituency.
A statement issued in Port Harcourt, the state capital yesterday and signed by the six lawmakers, also endorsed the Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Wike, as the PDP flag-bearer in the 2015 governorship election in the state.
According to them, their decision to endorse the president’s re-election bid was informed by his transformation agenda, which they said was fast-tracking development in the country.
The statement read in part: “The transformation agenda of the Jonathan administration has been felt in critical sectors of the economy, such as power, aviation, oil and gas, education, agriculture, trade and investment, health and tourism.
“The transformation agenda has also led to the development of key infrastructure, particularly roads, as well as economic empowerment of citizens and the improvement of the well-being of Nigerians.
“If the Jonathan administration could achieve these in less than four years, we believe that if given a second term, it would achieve more and place Nigeria in a better position among the comity of nations”.
The lawmakers explained that their support for Wike’s governorship ambition in 2015 was borne out of his achievements in the education sector in the country, and his leadership qualities.
They assured the minister that he would get their support any time he decides to formally declare his ambition to run in the Rivers State governorship race.
