The All Progressives Congress (APC) has lost six members in the Ekiti House of Assembly following the exit of Dr. Kayode Fayemi, who left office on Thursday.
The six APC members, who have now defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are Adeojo Ayodele (Ekiti South West II Constituency), Olowo Ajiboye (Oye II), Adeloye Adeyinka (Ikole I), Abeni Olayinka (Ado II), Fatunba Olajide (Moba II), and Olugbemi Joseph (Ikole II).
Prior to their defection, APC held 25 out of the 26 seats in the State House of Assembly, but their defection has brought to seven, the number of lawmakers, who are members of the PDP.
Fayemi left office on Thursday, following the expiration of his four-year tenure, as he lost the June 21 election to Mr Ayodele Fayose of the PDP.
The new governor announced the defection of the lawmakers as he invited them to the podium during his swearing in. He said in his inaugural speech that the APC was dead and buried in the state.
More members of the APC are expected to defect to the ruling party.
