The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has arrested six suspected drug traffickers at the Murtala Mohammed International airport in Lagos.

The suspects: Nwodo Chidiebere Anthony, Ikebalum Nicholas Ogochukwu, Madu Michael Okey, Okoye Kelvin, Nnadobe Obiora Anthony and Nwaokolo Gladys Omari, were arrested on Monday with assorted illegal substances.

The cumulative quantity of the narcotics recovered from them is about 16.51kg. The drugs include 10.27kg of cannabis, 1.31kg of methamphetamine and 4.93kg of cocaine.

NDLEA Head of Public Affairs, Mitchel Ofoyeju, who confirmed the arrest, said two of the suspects were bringing cocaine from Brazil, while two others were taking methamphetamine to Tanzania and South Africa before they were nabbed.

He stated further that another was taking cannabis to Doha, Qatar while the only female among them, Nwaokolo Gladys Omari, was going to Madrid, Spain with cocaine.

Ofoyeju explained that the Chairman/Chief Executive of the Agency, Ahmadu Giade condemned the actions of the suspects, noting that while other Nigerians joined their Christian brothers in marking the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the six suspects were plotting how to courier illicit substance.

The Lagos Airport NDLEA commander, Mr. Hamza Umar noted that one of the suspects was found with liquid cocaine concealed in body cream, while another excreted wraps of cocaine on board the aircraft.
