The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has confirmed that six persons lost their lives in a fatal road crash that occurred on Wednesday, May 28, along the Mbiabong Itam road, off the Itu-Uyo highway in Akwa Ibom State.
According to a statement issued in Uyo by the FRSC Sector Commander, Edward Odiete, the accident involved a tricycle (Keke) with registration number DUU 407 WZ and a DYNA truck without a registration number.
Odiete disclosed that the crash claimed the lives of four adult males, one female, and two children, all of whom died at the scene before the arrival of FRSC personnel.

The only survivor, the driver of the truck, reportedly fled the scene.
“The bodies of the victims have since been deposited at the morgue,” he added.
Preliminary investigations based on eyewitness accounts indicate that the crash was caused by excessive speed and brake failure.
Odiete expressed deep concern over the recurring incidence of avoidable road accidents and cautioned motorists against reckless driving, speeding, driving against traffic, and other forms of road indiscipline.
“This unfortunate incident could have been avoided if basic safety measures were observed and traffic rules strictly adhered to,” he said.
While extending condolences to the families of the deceased, the sector commander urged all road users to prioritize safety to prevent further loss of lives and property on Nigerian roads.
