Six political parties converged in Kaduna State on Thursday to prepare for dislodging the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The summit, themed “Solid Political Party Structure Critical to the Sustainability of the Democratic Process,” was convened by the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Attendees included the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the KOWA Party, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), and the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP).

Summit chairman Lawal Nalado highlighted the “unbearable hardship” faced by Nigerians, emphasizing that the gathering aimed to discuss the nation’s myriad problems and ways to address them.
Nalado refuted claims that the summit was convened to form a merger or coalition among the parties.
He stressed the importance of grassroots mobilization, advocating for political enlightenment to change the mindset that politics should not be about money, religion, or ethnicity, but about voting for the right candidates to uplift the social and economic status of society.
PRP National Chairman Falalu Bello, represented by Prof. Sule Muhammad, underscored the need for effective mobilization of the electorate by opposition parties.
He pointed out that fielding credible candidates alone is insufficient to win elections; mass mobilization is crucial.
Bello also cited challenges such as inadequate resources, lack of internal democracy, decayed transparency, and interference by the ruling party as issues plaguing opposition parties.
Ahmed Tujjani, chairman of ADC and IPAC Kaduna State, stated that the summit aimed to chart a course to address socio-economic and political problems and to propose realistic solutions.
“This is not a gathering for a merger or forming a coalition ahead of 2027 but rather a summit to discuss our common problems and suggest solutions for addressing them,” Tujjani said.
“We will call you again tomorrow to read out our communique, which will be a summary and possibly a mini-working document for solving our problems ahead of 2027.”
