Somalia achieved an unprecedented approach in its football history on Thursday (1 May 2014) when CAF presented certificates to 25 young coaches at a ceremony in Mogadishu.
The graduated coaches took part in the CAF License ‘C’ course held in August 2013.
The course was the first in the annals of Somali football, as part of the joint CAF and Somali Football Federation (SFF) effort to raise the standard of the game in the war-ravaged country.
SFF Technical Director Awil Ismail Mohamed remarked that Somalia was the last country to benefit from the CAF license ‘C’ course due to the civil unrest in the country.
“As Technical Director, I am really happy that all 25 coaches who took part in the course passed their exams after the training conducted by FIFA and CAF expert, Ulric Mathiot. I would like to thank local instructors Mohamed Abdulle Farayare and Abdi Farah Geela who helped the expert.”
He added that plans are advanced to hold at least two ‘License ‘C’ courses and one License ‘B’ course before the end of the year.
SFF president Ali Said Guled Roble said the CAF License ‘C’ graduation for Somalia was a clear indication that the war-weary country was recovering from years of setbacks.
He urged the coaches to spread their knowledge to other regions across the country to help promote football in every single village or neighbor-hood.
