As more politicians move in their numbers to join the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), the party’s national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has denied allegations that the APC plans on establishing a one-party state.

Chief Oyegun made the clarification yesterday at the APC national secretariat in Abuja when some members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Anambra State, including the party’s candidate in the last governorship election, Mr Tony Nwoye, expressed readiness to defect to the governing party.

The APC chair attributed the cause of challenges facing the country to bad governance, saying the manifestation of the so-called Biafra, the resurgence of cultism and criminality all over the nation shows how close Nigeria was to the brink and the enormity of the job that has to be done by all.

Oyegun used the opportunity to plead with Nigerians in South-East, who have recently being agitating for Biafra, to align with President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to solve the problems bedeviling the country.

The APC chairman also reiterated the readiness of the Buhari administration to revive the battered oil, agriculture and mining sectors of the economy after the past government had failed to turn them into a source of revenue for the country.

In his remarks, Mr Nwoye, who led the factional PDP members, said they decided to consider the defection option based on principle.
