Ogun State political chieftain and Senior Legislative Aide to Hon (Dr) Oladipupo Adebutu, Chairman, House Committee on Rural Development, Hon Owoseye Sonuga, has advised cooperative societies in Nigeria to encourage the youths to get involved in the activities of the societies in order to enable them have access to friendly financial facilities that would enable them to be economically independent.
He stated that cooperative societies’ loan facilities were friendlier than cut throat loans from commercial banks. He added that if youths had access to such friendly credit scheme, they would not only invest it wisely and repayment less stressful, social vices, according to him, would also be reduced to the barest minimum.
Hon Sonuga stated this on August 30, 2018, at the 50th Annual General Meeting/Anniversary/Launching of Irepodun Ijebu Ode CMU Limited Co-operative Union.
Sonuga congratulated the society on its 50th anniversary celebrations which he said was a rare feat. He called on the state government to provide financial assistance to the cooperative societies in the state.
To the former member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, if the assistance is granted, the saving and thrift bodies would be in a better position to improve the prosperity of their members for the good of the society.
Hon Sonuga who represented Adebutu at the occasion, donated N500,000 towards the construction of the 2nd phase of the society’s development building.
