Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was so happy when a fan from Spain said to her that she named her granddaughter Chimamanda, all because of her.
Mrs Adichie was in Cartagena, Colombia, where she was invited for the inaugural Gabriel Garcia Marquez lecture at the Hay festival.
After the ecent, she chatted up fans and it was an amazing experience for the popular author, when a super fan, who couldn’t speak English nor Igbo, told her that she named her granddaughter after her.
Sharing a video of the sublime moment, Chimamanda wrote:
“‘I named my granddaughter Chimamanda,’ she said.
Deeply moved by the warmth and love in Barrio Nelson Mandela.
I have never wished so desperately that I spoke Spanish.
Thank you, Cartagena.
