Manchester United and Arsenal have been dealt a blow in their alleged pursuit of William Carvalho, after Sporting Lisbon president Bruno de Carvalho said the midfielder will not be sold this January, reports Sky Sports.
.
The 21-year-old has been the subject of intense transfer speculation in recent months, after rising to prominence at Estádio José Alvalade, following a series of impressive Primeira Liga performances.
.
Red Devils boss David Moyes has been credited with an interest in bringing Carvalho to Old Trafford, as he looks to strengthen his midfield department in the mid-season window.
.
However, recent reports have in fact suggested that Arsene Wenger is the one preparing a £12million bid to lure the Manchester United target to the Emirates Stadium this month, as the French tactician looks to maintain Arsenal’s Premier League title challenge this year.
.
With two goals in 13 league appearance for Leonardo Jardim’s side in 2013/14, Carvalho’s stock continues to rise, but Sporting will reject any offers they receive – from the Gunners or any other suitor – between now and the end of the season.
.
“We are not interested in the exit of this player,” De Carvalho told Portuguese newspaper Record.
