Stirling Club Tennis Member Stanley Tomchin Hosts Youth in Vancouver

SANTA BARBARA, CA–(Marketwired – Feb 13, 2014) – Six young tennis players from Las Vegas had the trip of a lifetime when Stanley Tomchin, Turnberry resident and Stirling Club member, took them to Vancouver. Stan was so inspired by the children who he sponsors through the Marty Hennessy Jr. Tennis Foundation that he decided to invite them to Vancouver for a club exchange to play tennis, experience the culture and education of this international city. Their final destination was the historical Jericho Tennis Club in one of the most beautiful cities of the world. Carol Richards, Vice President and Membership Director of the Jericho Tennis Club, and her team gave the kids a warm welcome and organized matches with adults and juniors from their prestigious club.

Back home in Las Vegas, the children are part of the Marty Hennessy Junior Tennis Foundation that follows the mission to inspire children in need through mentoring, tennis and education. To achieve those goals the foundation supports children in need to receive the best possible mentoring, tennis and educational training. Through far-reaching leadership programs they introduce recreational tennis to as many children possible, while at the same time offering a high performance element allowing children to go as far as a college scholarship, if they choose to do so. Currently, the leadership program maintains 25-40 players and has a 90% success rate in getting children off the streets, into the classroom, onto the tennis court, and into college scholarships.

In order to be part of the trip to Canada, the kids had to have a 3.5 grade point average. Stanley Tomchin, who is an avid high-level tennis player himself, spends his summers in Vancouver and wanted to show the Hennessy Foundation children this beautiful city, while at the same time introducing his tennis club members in Vancouver to these “wonderful children.” “I want to help expand their minds so they can experience a different country and culture,” explained Tomchin. “I knew that creating an exchange with my tennis club in Vancouver and the Stirling club would be a win for everyone.” Stan treated the children to a first class trip. “It is the first time I have gone to another country and Stan treated us so well,” explained Patrick Kawka who is also ranked top 60 in the United States and hopes to get a scholarship to college.

Stanley Tomchin is known as the world’s most successful professional games player who is now using his good fortune to support several philanthropic causes. Starting out as a chess, bridge and backgammon wiz, who represented the United States in the bridge Olympiad, he used his talents and luck to make his way in the gaming industry, leading to worldwide fame and a successful career. He was raised on Long Island, New York and after travelling and working in places all around the world, from London to the Caribbean to the Playboy Mansion in Beverly Hills, where he spent two weeks playing backgammon with Hugh Hefner, he finally settled in California where Stan Tomchin now lives with his wife and daughter.
