A suspected member of the Supreme Eiye Confraternity, identified as Bashiru Saidu, has been shot dead in a suspected cult clash in the Atan-Ota area of Ogun State.
The 44-year-old was reportedly gunned down on Sunday night by rival cult members who fled the scene immediately after the attack.
According to sources, the assailants, numbering four, arrived on two motorcycles and targeted Saidu along Bankole Onibukun Street in Atan-Ota, where he was shot in the head and left in a pool of blood.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, said the Atan-Ota Division responded swiftly after receiving a distress call at approximately 10:00 p.m.
“The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into a fatal cult-related incident that claimed the life of one Bashiru Saidu, aged 44,” Odutola stated. “His body has been evacuated and deposited at the State Hospital Mortuary in Ilaro for further examination.”
Odutola further disclosed that the State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has deployed the Command’s Anti-Cultism Unit to carry out a thorough investigation and apprehend all individuals involved in the killing.
She emphasised that the Police Command remains committed to rooting out cult violence and restoring safety to affected communities.
“We urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station. The cooperation of the public is crucial in ensuring that those responsible for this gruesome act are brought to justice,” she added.
The latest incident adds to a series of cult-related violence that has plagued parts of Ogun State in recent months, prompting calls for intensified security operations and community engagement to combat the menace.
