Suspected Boko Haram gunmen have killed a soldier and two civilians in Sabon-Gari Hyambula village of Madagali local government area of Adamawa state.
According to an eye witness, Sulaiman Baba, two of the suspected assailants were also gunned down by soldiers in the ensuing exchange of fire during the daring attack on a military check point on Tuesday night.
According to Baba: “The attackers came in a large convoy and launched attack on the military checkpoint with the intention of routing them before proceeding to the town but the soldiers repelled them after a prolonged gun battle which resulted in the death of five persons including a soldier, two civilians and two of the attackers”.
He added that residents fled to nearby bushes and the hill tops for fear of being caught in the cross-fire.
Meanwhile, community leaders have persuaded the fleeing residents to return to their homes as the military strive to restore normalcy to the community.
The Army Public Relations Officer of the 23 Brigade, Yola, Captain Jafaru Nuhu, said he was not aware of the incident, but promised to find out.
“I will find out later”, he said.
