(“SR Inc”), the leader in shared-cost research and consulting on best practices in more sustainable business, is pleased to publically announce what it recognized in December that SBER Member-Client Oracle was named the Sustainable Business & Enterprise Roundtable’s (SBER) Outstanding Corporate Leader of 2013. SR Inc noted Oracle’s leadership in developing and implementing a multi-year, milestone based Sustainability Strategy that is helping its global real estate function drive broad based optimization efforts globally. Specifically, SR Inc cited Oracle’s leadership in increasing energy, water, and materials productivity; driving data centers optimization; and developing new products to further their sustainability initiatives. The Award was presented during SR Inc’s Q4 Executive Symposium: Advanced Sustainability Strategy; Sustainable Optimization & Innovation, hosted by SBER Member-Client Nokia in San Diego, CA.
“Oracle has emerged as a global leader in more sustainable real estate and facilities in 2013,” noted SR Inc President and CEO Jim Boyle. “In 2010, Oracle began developing a multi-year strategy to move to more sustainable high-performance in real estate and facilities globally and the success it is driving in 2013 is impressive. Oracle is saving money even as it develops and deploys relevant new solutions for itself and the market; this is what sustainable leadership is all about.”
SR Inc recognized Oracle as the SBER Outstanding Corporate Leader of 2013 due to its multi-faceted approach to sustainability, specifically, the company’s leadership in developing and driving optimization throughout its global facilities, data centers, and for setting ambitious goals through 2016. This past year, sustainability highlights at Oracle have included:
- Implementation of a facility-wide, Environmental Accounting and Reporting (EA&R) module to reduce environmental impact and comply with associated regulations
- Oracle’s newest Utah Compute Facility (UCF), one of the most energy efficient data centers in the industry, use of a very innovative and breakthrough cooling solution that combines cold outdoor air with free humidification from IT equipment waste heat, xeriscape landscaping which nearly eliminates the need for irrigation, and a 20% reduction of the copper needed for power cables by employing higher voltage power.
Oracle’s sustainability goals for 2016 include a 10% reduction in energy use per employee, a 6% improvement in power usage effectiveness in production data centers, a 15% reduction in potable water use per employee, and a 15% reduction in waste to landfill per employee.
