The Taraba State Government has approved the conduct of bye-elections to fill vacant councillorship positions in Donga, Wukari and Jalingo Local Government Areas.
The Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission (TSIEC) disclosed the development, saying preparations were underway to conduct the elections following vacancies caused by the death and resignation of some councillors.

The commission’s chairman, Dr Bala Job Aji, announced the approval on Tuesday while receiving delegations from the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) and the management of Gift FM, Jalingo.
Aji said the bye-elections were necessary to fill the vacant positions and ensure continued representation at the grassroots level.
He emphasised the importance of collaboration with relevant stakeholders, particularly women’s organisations and the media, in mobilising residents and promoting credible elections.
According to him, the commission is committed to building partnerships with relevant groups to support voter awareness and participation in the electoral process.
The TSIEC chairman also assured the visiting delegations that the commission would involve stakeholders in its activities, noting that their cooperation would contribute to the successful conduct of the elections.
Earlier, representatives of the NCWS and Gift FM pledged their organisations’ support for the commission and expressed readiness to work with it to promote credible elections and democratic participation in the state.
The delegations also called for sustained cooperation among electoral stakeholders to strengthen the electoral process and encourage greater participation in grassroots governance.
Aji reiterated the commission’s commitment to conducting free, fair and credible bye-elections in the affected local government areas.
However, the commission did not announce a specific date for the polls in its statement.
