The Tiv Cultural and Social Association (TCSA), the umbrella body of Tiv associations in Taraba has raised the alarm over the existence of a Fulani militia that is working to thwart the current efforts of the state government to ensure peace returns to troubled areas in the state.
In a press statement issued in Jalingo, yesterday, the group warned that if not quickly curtailed, the activities of the militia is capable of throwing the state into chaos.
The statement signed by the group’s president, Mr. James Nungwa said that the rising wave of indiscriminate and brutal murder of clergymen and farmers in various parts of the state in the last two months was of grave concern and poses serious threat to the peace and development of the state.
The group further noted that no fewer than thirty people have been killed within the period under review despite series of efforts by the state governor, Darius Ishaku to restore permanent peace to troubled areas in the state.
The group commended Ishaku for constituting a Task Force Committee for the restoration of peace and rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state, but expressed regret that Fulani Militias were still operating with maximum impunity in a clear bid to thwart these efforts.
