Timing Of Jonathan’s Presidential Declaration For 2015 Inappropriate, Says Ex-AGF Olujimi

A former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Chief Akin Olujinmi (SAN), has said that President Goodluck Jonathan has not shown enough commitment to the problem of insecurity in the country.

Speaking with journalists in Osogbo, the Osun State capital on Tuesday on the killing of 48 students of the Government Science Secondary School in Potiskum, Yobe State by a suicide bomber on Monday and the presidential declaration by Mr. Jonathan for re-election barely 24 hours later, the lawyer said that the president had shown to the world that he was more pre-occupied with his re-election bid than curbing insecurity in the country.

He said, “Our leaders don’t pay proper attention to issues affecting the majority of the people in the country and it is unfortunate.

“The killing of the pupils is condemnable and our leaders must rise up to the task by ensuring that there is adequate security in every part of the country.

“Apart from the pupils who were killed on Monday, Chibok girls who were abducted by the same Boko Haram sect are still in the custody of their abductors and nobody is saying anything about that again.

“Rather than ensuring the release of the girls, those clamouring for their release are being harassed”.

Olujinmi, who was the AGF during former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s tenure, also faulted the declaration for 2015 presidential poll by Jonathan.

Akin OlujimiHe said that the president ought to have been more interested in the security of all Nigerians rather than jostling to return to Aso Rock without performing first, the task he was elected for.

According to him, the 2015 election is an important national assignment but he said that the security of the country was of more importance to those who love the country.

“The timing of the declaration for 2015 election by President Goodluck Jonathan is inappropriate. The pupils were killed and not only that the parents of the abducted girls are the only ones who feel the pain now. Nobody is saying anything again.

“There is no hope no hope that the girls will return. I will advise the President to be more interested in security of lives and property of Nigerians. We have not had it this bad in Nigeria and our leaders must do something”, he said.

The lawyer said that it was a thing of shame that the commander-in-chief had not been able to raise a force to defeat the Boko Haram since they started unleashing their reign of terror on Nigerians.

According to the senior lawyer, the situation in the country is so deplorable that nobody is completely safe anywhere in the country, saying kidnappers were having a field day in the areas where terrorists were not operating.
