President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of a federal university in Southern Kaduna, Vice President Kashim Shettima announced during a condolence visit to the Kukah family.
Shettima, who also disclosed ongoing discussions to set up a Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, stated that the university’s approval underscores the Tinubu administration’s commitment to the development of Southern Kaduna.
Speaking at the residence of the late traditional ruler, His Highness Yohanna Sidi Kukah, the Agwom Akulu of Ikulu Chiefdom and family member of Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Shettima emphasized the administration’s focus on security and development in the region.

“Be rest assured that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has the people of Kaduna and the people of Southern Kaduna at heart,” Shettima said, citing the appointment of General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff as a reflection of the President’s attention to the region’s security needs.
The Vice President also commended Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for his inclusive governance approach and assured that the Federal Government would partner with the state to improve road infrastructure and ensure development reaches Southern Kaduna.
Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah expressed gratitude to Shettima for the visit, highlighting the region’s infrastructural challenges.
“You can see the nature of the place in which we live. It took you around three and a half hours to get here. The road is largely broken.
I know you will remain a friend of this Ikulu nation and a friend of this community. We are honoured to have you,” Kukah said.
