Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has asked the British government to work with Nigeria and other African countries on economic and military projects.
Tinubu urged the United Kingdom to enhance its investments across industries to help Africa achieve lasting and widespread development.
On Wednesday, he gave a speech in Abuja while visiting James Cleverly MP, the UK’s Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs.

“The United Kingdom must do more for the continent,” Tinubu says. Our economy is not yet competitive.
Tinubu has called on the United Kingdom to play a pivotal role in mobilizing investment to pipe gas from Nigeria to Europe as a means of facilitating energy transition and stimulating economic growth in Africa and Nigeria.
He pushed for the acceptance of gas as a clean energy alternative and asked for help funding and facilitating the necessary investment.
Cleverly then responded by offering his own congratulations to Tinubu on his election victory and praising him for the courageous economic measures he has begun, such as the elimination of the gasoline subsidy and the intervention in several foreign exchange markets.
He reassured Tinubu that the United Kingdom was a reliable and stable ally for Nigeria and the rest of Africa.
That the United Kingdom is eager to collaborate with us in Nigeria and Africa brings me great joy. The United Kingdom needs to step up its aid to the rest of Africa. Our economic development has lagged.
For this reason, the Western economic program should be able to assist Nigeria in piping our gas to Europe. Gas is recognized as a viable clean energy source. We need you to provide the capital and arrange the investment we need.
The Foreign Secretary continued by saying that he hoped to strengthen bilateral and economic ties while in Nigeria.
“I’d want to see the United Kingdom increase its investment in Nigeria. Taking the steps you have so far to modernize your economy and make it more attractive to international investors is a brave and necessary move. Nigeria is home to a large number of young, intelligent, and well-educated people. Nigeria may become an energy and agricultural exporter with the help of its people and your country’s resources. The United Kingdom will continue to be a vital partner of Nigeria and Africa for many decades to come.
