Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, LP, bemoaned the fact that the most recent presidential election shown that Nigeria is moving closer and closer to being a dictatorship.
This allegation was made by Abure while he was accusing the Federal Government, which is led by President Bola Tinubu, of attempting to suppress its presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
He pointed out that the decision of the Supreme Court concerning the presidential election demonstrated that the executive branch had taken control of the legislative and judicial branches of government.

He emphasized that Nigerians have, within a relatively short period of time, completely disregarded the teachings of their ancestors.
The following is an excerpt from a statement made by Abure: “However, there are significant lessons to be learned. What has taken place in Nigeria after the presidential election on February 25 is unequivocal proof that our institutions are not functioning properly and that we may be moving in the direction of a dictatorship. It should come as no surprise that the legislative and judicial branches have been subverted by the executive branch. This is a terrible blow to our democracy, and it comes at an even greater cost to the people of Nigeria.
“Everything that our ancestors taught us has been obliterated in a relatively short amount of time as a direct result of the unbridled ambition of a select few. Independence for the nation was a goal that the nation’s founding fathers were willing to risk their lives to achieve. many have given their lives in the fight to preserve our democracy, and many have spent all of these years fighting to achieve electoral and constitutional reforms. Many lives have been lost in this fight. Sadly, all of their efforts and fights have been in vain as of today because they were ultimately unsuccessful.
It is also important to state for the record that we have it on very good authority that the government may have marked some key leaders of the Labour Party, including myself and our Leader and Presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi in particular, for vilification in order to suppress the party, suffocate our team, and stifle our goal of a new Nigeria. “It is also important to state for the record that we have it on very good authority that the government may have marked some key leaders of the Labour Party. The planned persecuting, intimidating, repressing, and harassing of our leaders by security agencies and any and all other branches of the government will undoubtedly be defended.
Abure asked the members of the LP and the Obidient family to be watchful and to brace themselves for the hardships that lie ahead. He emphasized that the fight for a New Nigeria will undoubtedly be arduous and challenging.
