This weekend in Abuja, the 63rd Annual General Conference of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) will begin. It is likely to be opened by President Bola Tinubu.
Barrister Yakubu Maikyau, SAN, the leader of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), invited the President to declare the event open.
On Friday, while hosting the group at the Presidential Villa, Tinubu made good on his promise to have his administration do a comprehensive assessment of judicial officer compensation structures in the country.

Given his historic success in reforming justice administration in Lagos State, the President believes a thorough examination of judicial officers’ wages and allowances is necessary in the fight against corruption.
If we’re serious about eliminating corruption in the judicial system, we have to address the issue of pay equity. He promised that the NBA president’s request for a cost-benefit analysis would be considered.
In a similar vein, President Tinubu recognised the significance of filling the Supreme Court vacancies that now exist, reiterating that these gaps constitute commitments that must be performed in accordance with the NJC’s suggestions.
The vast majority of them are currently on vacation; upon their return, we will evaluate their stock and fill any open positions. He described it as “an act of duty.”
He also thanked his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, State Chief of Protocol, Victor Adeleke, and Principal Private Secretary, Prince Damilotun Aderemi, all of whom are lawyers.
Shortly after taking office, President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Lateef Fagbemi was appointed Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, which was praised by the NBA President.
