Senator Oluremi Tinubu on Monday picked the All Progressives Congress ticket for the Lagos Central Senatorial District at the party’s primary election.
Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Mr Kehinde Akinola, who declared the winner, said a total of 2,428 votes were cast during the election, out of which 2,379 were valid.
Akinola said Tinubu had 2,354 votes while her opponent, Mr Odutola Adetokunbo, had 25 votes.
He said there were 49 invalid votes.
Addressing journalists, Mrs. Tinubu commended the delegates and the people of the constituency for the confidence reposed in her.
She described the victory as a “debt” that would be paid back through quality representation at the Senate.
It was learnt that Adetokunbo and his agents were not at the venue when the result was announced.
The election, which started at about 1pm and ended at about 5.40pm at the Landmark Centre, Oniru Estate, Victoria Island, was reportedly peaceful and racncour-free.
Elsewhere, Sokoto State Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko also picked the APC ticket to contest for Sokoto North Senatorial seat in the forthcoming general elections.
The governor was elected by no fewer than 2,432 delegates at the Trade Fair Complex in Sokoto city.
Announcing the result, Chairman of the Electoral Panel, Alhaji Nasiru Danladi Bako said the governor scored 2,372 votes to emerge winner of the primaries.
In his acceptance speech, Governor Wamakko assured the zone of a responsive and vibrant representation in the Senate if elected in 2015.
He also thanked the delegates and the party members for confidence reposed in him and promised not to disappoint.
