Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has encouraged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to confront the challenge of rescuing Nigeria from economic suffering after President Tinubu’s triumph at the Supreme Court last Thursday.
Olawepo-Hashim made this request following President Tinubu’s victory.
Tinubu’s victory in the presidential election held on February 25, 2023 was upheld by the Supreme Court, which also rejected the petitions that Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party submitted in an effort to overturn Tinubu’s election as president.

In a press release that was distributed on Sunday in Abuja, Olawepo-Hashim explained that “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as the one with the democratic mandate, has more work to do with the economy hit by its worst inflation in over twenty years, and the Nation’s currency devalued at 80% in four months of his administration at the unofficial market.”
He continued by saying that “hitting the ground running now would not be enough as he now needs to fly when it is needed.”
He challenged both Atiku and Obi to make a firm commitment to uniting Nigeria, saving the economy, and improving the welfare of the country’s population.
Olawepo-Hashim remembered that in the run-up to the elections in 2023, he had urged for a government that would be comprised of national unity.
“Before and after the election, we had counseled multiple times that the Post -Buhari Administration must be a Government of National Unity analogous to the post-civil war cabinet of General Gowon, owing to the serious fracture of the polity and the horrendous damage to the economy. We had done this both before and after the election.
“In their opinion following the election, several people had rejected the suggestion, claiming instead that what is required is a government with “national competence.” As a result of the decline in the welfare of the people, the nation is currently waiting with bated breath to witness the “competence” that he mentioned.
He continued by saying that yes men and women should not be given major roles because Nigeria’s circumstances required the most capable hands.
Olawepo-Hashim extended her best wishes to Tinubu following the success he had before the Supreme Court.
