Author, spoken word poet and ex wife of singer 9ice, Toni Payne had earlier shared that she wished the best to her former husband even though they are no longer together.
Payne has now gone on to break down the occurrences that led to the failure of her marriage so many years ago.
9ice and Toni Payne had separated in 2010 after having a son together, named, Zion.
They had been married for a year before officially getting divorced shortly after, following allegations of cheating that sprung from a song that 9ice had released earlier.
As revealed by Payne in what she calls, “Letting go of all Bitterness and Hate for the one I once loved,”
the poet revealed that the ex’s song had been a work of fiction, Blown out of proportion by Nigerian media professionals, leaving her caught in the resulting “crossfire.”
Speaking in her new revelation, Payne said:
“A man sang a song and for whatever reason known to them, Nigerian Media “professionals” decided to tag it as what it was not, and a lot of Nigerian onlookers decided to help spread it without knowing if it was true or not and unfortunately for me, I was caught in the crossfire.”
She went on to say she has since forgiven her ex, wit whom she now speaks and skips over the details that led up to the divorce, laughing about it.
Payne added that talking about the issues has led to a better understanding of the reactions that led to their current divorced state, saying they both understand themselves better.
“I also hope he understands my every reaction and puts himself in my shoes. Through all the mess, we never really talked deeply about things. There was too much resentment on my side for me to want to allow him in.
“For every action there is a reaction and for every reaction there are consequences. I think sometimes, when you are finally in a good place, it is good to talk. Don’t just leave things like that, reach out to each other and talk about things. It is good for both parties to get closure.
