Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation FANSAN YANMA have successfully repelled coordinated attacks by armed bandits in Zamfara State’s Maru and Tsafe Local Government Areas.
The incidents, which occurred on Friday, May 17, 2025, were confirmed in a report by counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama.
The first attack took place at about 9:30 a.m. when armed bandits stormed Keta Town in Tsafe LGA, firing sporadically to instill panic. Troops swiftly responded and engaged the attackers in a fierce gun duel, eventually forcing them to retreat.

Later in the day, at approximately 3:30 p.m., another group of bandits launched an assault on Dankurji Village in Unguwar Galadima, Dansadau District of Maru LGA. During the invasion, a resident, 28-year-old Malam Audu, was killed before the assailants fled the scene.
A 12-year-old girl, Fatima Ibrahim, was also injured during the exchange of gunfire. She was quickly evacuated to a medical facility and is currently receiving treatment.
No casualties were recorded among the troops.
Military authorities say the operation is ongoing, with troops maintaining a strong presence across the affected areas to deter future attacks and restore lasting peace.
