Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully repelled an early morning attack by fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Azir, a community in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, killing an unspecified number of terrorists in the process.
This was disclosed by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert and security analyst in the Lake Chad region, via a post on his X handle on Friday.
According to Makama, credible sources revealed that the insurgents launched the assault around 4:30 a.m. in an attempt to overrun a military formation stationed in the area.

However, the troops responded swiftly with superior firepower, forcing the attackers to retreat in disarray while leaving behind the bodies of their fallen fighters.
βThe insurgents came in large numbers but met stiff resistance from our troops. We killed several of them, though the exact number is yet to be confirmed. Others fled with gunshot wounds,β one of the sources was quoted as saying.
The source further disclosed that the soldiers maintained control of the location and have since commenced mop-up operations in the surrounding bush to track down any fleeing terrorists.
No casualties were recorded on the side of the military, while normalcy has since been restored to the area.
