United States President Donald Trump has announced plans to impose a 25% tariff on any country purchasing oil or gas from Venezuela, citing concerns over migration and criminal activities.
Trump made the announcement on Monday via his Truth Social handle, accusing Venezuela of deliberately sending high-level criminals, including violent offenders, into the U.S.
“President Donald J. Trump announced today that the United States of America will be putting what is known as a Secondary Tariff on the Country of Venezuela, for numerous reasons, including the fact that Venezuela has purposefully and deceitfully sent to the United States, undercover, tens of thousands of high-level, and other, criminals, many of whom are murderers and people of a very violent nature,” his post read.

According to the former president, any nation that purchases oil or gas from Venezuela will be required to pay a 25% tariff to the U.S. on any trade conducted with the country.
He further stated that all necessary documentation will be signed and registered, with the policy set to take effect on April 2.
