MUKHTARI SHAGARI
Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Mukhtari Shagari, yesterday said he is in support of President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election because he has done much for the people of Sokoto State.
Shagari, a former Minister of Water Resources during the Olusegun Obasanjo administration, said it amounts to ingratitude and total betrayal for leaders of the state to now turn their back against “the man who has shown love and respect to the people of the state on so many occasions”.
He said President Jonathan gave him and Governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko all the support needed to win the 2011 governorship election in addition to the one billion naira donated for the victims of 2010 flood disaster in the state.
The deputy governor, who spoke at the sensitization workshop for peace, religion and ethnic tolerance in Nigeria, organized by Jonathan Actualization Movement (JAM) for the North-West zone, held at Giginya hotel, Sokoto, said the Jonathan administration has continued with the second phase of Goronyo dam irrigation project.
He further pointed out the appointment of the Sultan of Sokoto as the permanent national Amirul Hajj as another reason why the people of Sokoto are indebted to the President.
“Jonathan is our father, he is our mother, he is our grandfather and great grandfather, we believe in him and we are firmly standing for his re-election, on this there is no going back”, he said.
