A pro-Tinubu group, known as Edo Volunteers for Tinubu 2023, yesterday, canvassed support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as the preferred presidential hopeful in the forthcoming general elections.
Members of the group made their position known during the inauguration of its 10-man steering committee in Benin City.
They expressed confidence in Tinubu’s capacity to redeem the country from challenges bedevilling it. The group’s Chairman and former House of Representatives member, Rasaq Bello-Osagie, described Tinubu as “a man with a vision.”
“Tinubu is a committed, dedicated and detribalised politician desirous of genuine change,” Bello-Osagie said.
Meanwhile, another group in Bauchi State, Disciples of Jagaban (DOJ), has also asked him to contest the presidential election.
The northern group said Tinubu “is a detribalised Nigerian, who appointed non-Lagosians as government officials, commissioners and advisers, among others.”
Its Coordinator, Danjuma Hussaini Suleiman, said Tinubu contributed greatly to Lagos State development, while his successors had continued to build on it.
Suleiman said: “He succeeded as an opposition governor in Lagos during the Olusegun Obasanjo administration, who deprived the state of statutory monthly allocation for three years. Tinubu was not deterred but went about the act of governance through internally-generated revenue (IGR).”
Delivering the inauguration lecture in Benin City, Dr. Agbadua, Oyakhiromhe Bamidele, in his presentation on: “2023: “Nigeria on your marks Again,” lamented that the country was currently facing several challenges.
He said: “Among political gladiators, who have shown interest or are perceived to be nursing the ambition for the presidency, Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu stands out. He has prepared himself very well for leadership… ”
Edo Volunteers Group’s Convener, Madam Owolabi Adetutu, said nation-building demanded sacrifice.
“Asiwaju knows the country and has held steadfastly to the belief that Nigeria could meet and exceed the expectations of its citizens and the world by living up to the often-repeated reputation as the giant of Africa, ” she said.
