Two people were injured on Tuesday evening when an explosive went off around the Asikolaye area of Kaduna State.
Eyewitnesses and the state police command confirmed the incident, which occurred at about 8:15 p.m. when Muslims were breaking their Ramadan fast near the residence of Sheik Dahiru Bauchi.
The State Commissioner of Police, Umar Shehu, while speaking to journalists about the explosion, said no death was recorded.
“There was an explosion, but only two people sustained injury and are receiving treatment at the hospital”, he said.
Security agents have cordoned the area causing serious traffic grid lock around the area.
Though the cause of the explosion, which created a big crater near a suya spot, is yet to be established, a resident of the area, who simply gave his name as Musa, said it was not caused by bomb.
According to him, the hot, big kettle used by a tea and bread seller (mai-sha’i) to boil water, exploded while on fire which led to pandemonium in the area as residents thought it was a bomb.
