Hollywood producer, Tyler Perry, and the Motion Picture and Television Fund (MPTF) are set to be honoured with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the 93rd Oscar ceremony in April 2021.
The organizer recently revealed that the award is meant to recognize their widespread generosity amid the coronavirus pandemic.
According to the brains behind the Oscar awards, Perry and the MPTF have strived to help people in the entertainment industry impacted by the Covid 19 pandemic, and Tyler helped several people return to work at his Tyler Perry Studios while the MPTF has provided social services to almost 9,000 members.
The academy president, David Rubin added that the filmmaker’s cultural influence extends far beyond his work as a producer.
His words, “Tyler’s cultural influence extends far beyond his work as a filmmaker,”
“He has quietly and steadily focused on humanitarian and social justice causes from the beginning of his career, caring for people who are most often ignored.”
