The United States has halted intelligence-sharing with Ukraine, a move that could significantly impact Kyiv’s ability to target Russian forces, CIA Director John Ratcliffe announced on Wednesday.
The decision underscores the Trump administration’s strategy of pressuring allies to engage in negotiations.
U.S. Pushes Ukraine Toward Peace Talks

This development follows President Donald Trump’s revelation on Tuesday that he had received a letter from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressing readiness to negotiate an end to the ongoing war with Russia.
Ratcliffe, while addressing the intelligence-sharing pause, hinted that the situation might soon change.
“I think on the military front and the intelligence front, the pause (that prompted Ukraine’s president to respond) will go away.
I think we’ll work shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine as we have to push back on the aggression that’s there, but to put the world in a better place for these peace negotiations to move forward,” he stated.
Extent of Intelligence Cutback Unclear
It remains uncertain how much intelligence-sharing has been reduced. Since the war began in 2022, the U.S. has provided Ukraine with critical intelligence, particularly for military targeting.
Meanwhile, U.S. National Security Adviser Mike Waltz confirmed on Wednesday that Washington is reassessing its intelligence partnership with Kyiv.
According to Waltz, the U.S. is actively engaged in discussions with Ukraine regarding a minerals deal and potential peace talks with Russia.
