Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, has commissioned four Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) and five patrol vans refurbished by the State Police Command with a charge to politicians not to politicize security matters.
The Governor, who was represented by his deputy, Prof. Amos Utuama (SAN), urged politicians to stop politicizing security issues, saying that police officers require the right tools and other forms of encouragement to fight crime.
Dr. Uduaghan assured Deltans that the State was prepared to confront security challenges at all times as peace and security is one of the three cardinal points of his administration’s agenda, and noted that the State since his assumption of office in 2007, has given out 110 vehicles, including two armored personnel carriers to the State police command.
While commending the efforts of security agents in the State in the fight against crime, he urged the Nigerian Police to develop maintenance culture of not only their vehicles and offices but also demonstrate transparency in all their activities by pointing out the bad eggs, no matter how highly placed in their midst.
The Governor appealed to members of the public to always provide reliable information about criminals to security agents at all time, saying that the task of crime fighting should not be left for the police alone.
The State Police Commissioner, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba, said that though Delta is a flash point, the support from the Government and people of Delta State have assisted the police in combating crime.
While saying that the refurbished vehicles will go a long way in enhancing crime fighting, he noted however, that police cannot succeed without the support of members of the public, adding that the command has won several awards both at the local and international levels and assured Deltans that with the crop of professionals in the force and refurbished APCs on ground, crime fighting will be total, and finally warned criminals to relocate or face the wrath of the command.
