The United Kingdom is set to impose sanctions on Evrazia, a Russia-based organization accused of attempting to rig a referendum in Moldova, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) confirmed on Wednesday.
According to the FCDO, the group sought to “destabilize Moldovan democracy and spread Russia’s malign influence.”
Moldova’s government has accused Russia of trying to interfere in its democratic processes, including last year’s presidential election—won by pro-Western leader Maia Sandu—and a referendum in October on amending the constitution to support European Union (EU) membership.

Russia has denied the allegations.
Under the new UK sanctions, Evrazia will face asset freezes, while its founder, Nelli Parutenco, and board member, Natalia Parasca, will be subject to a travel ban.
The FCDO claims the Russian non-profit organization was involved in bribing citizens to vote “no” in the 2023 referendum.
