Ukraine has reported a drone attack on the Morozovsk airbase in Russia, claiming to have killed or injured 20 airfield personnel and severely damaging eight Russian warplanes, as stated by officials in Kyiv.
Russian defense officials, on the other hand, stated that they intercepted 40 Ukrainian drones and that only a power substation was damaged in the attack.
Neither side’s claims have been independently verified, according to the Guardian UK.
The Morozovsk airbase is reportedly used by Russian tactical bombers to launch guided bombs at Ukrainian military targets and frontline towns and cities.
In a separate incident, Russia fired five missiles on Ukraine’s southern city of Zaporizhzhia on Friday, resulting in at least four deaths, 20 injuries, and damage to residential and industrial buildings.
The regional governor, Ivan Fedorov, reported that two journalists covering the aftermath of the strikes were among the wounded in the city, which is near the war’s frontline.
Governor Fedorov stated, “First, there were two missile strikes, and then, about 40 minutes later, there were other strikes at the same place – just as rescuers and police started working.”
Footage from Reuters TV showed reporters rushing to aid colleagues injured on the ground before emergency crews arrived.
