Former Governor of Ebonyi State and Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has endorsed Governor Francis Nwifuru for a second term in office ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial elections.
Umahi made the endorsement on Friday during a Christmas visit by members of the Izzi National Youth Forum to his Umunaga Uburu country home in Ohaozara Local Government Area.
Speaking during the visit, Umahi praised Governor Nwifuru’s leadership and expressed his confidence that Nwifuru would serve Ebonyi State for two terms, just as he and other former governors of the state had done.

“Even if, God forbid, your brothers or Izzi people stand against me tomorrow, the covenant I had with him [Governor Nwifuru] and God is for an uninterrupted eight years, and nothing would stop this,” Umahi declared.
The former governor assured the youths that he remains steadfast in his support for Governor Nwifuru and will continue to provide guidance throughout his tenure.
“I fought principalities and powers alone and won. Now that I have someone by my side, nothing will stop us. Till the end of eight years, I am not leaving him—not now,” Umahi added.
Earlier, the National President of the Izzi National Youth Forum, Barrister Andrew Chibueze Elom, commended Umahi for keeping his promise of handing over the governorship seat to an Izzi indigene.
Elom, who led the group to express their gratitude, also appealed to Umahi to continue guiding Governor Nwifuru to ensure the success of his administration.
“We are here to thank you for promising to hand over to an Izzi man and fulfilling that promise,” Elom said.
“We plead with you not to leave this project halfway. Stand with your son, encourage him, and guide him so he does not go astray.”
The visit was described as a significant show of unity and support within the political structure of Ebonyi State.
