21 May 2015, London. UPnP Forum believes that a unified user experience for the Smart Home can easily be turned into reality, so long as manufacturers work together to deploy the same mechanics. Speaking at TV Connect 2015 in London last month, Wouter van der Beek, UPnP Forum Vice President, explained that the standardisation of devices in the smart home ecosystem is the Forum’s primary concern, and that their latest UPnP+ certification initiative is paving the way for 100% true interoperability.
Wouter van der Beek joined the ‘Industry Wide Cohesive Smart Home Standardisation: Can it be done?’ panel at the conference. In the following video, Wouter describes how UPnP Forum fits in to the Smart Home ecosystem.
“UPnP Forum has a specification called ‘IoT Management and Control’, which unifies all different standards in one semantic layer, so every device can use the same language,” said Mr van der Beek. “We create the specifications which allow for the truly interoperable smart home to happen and hopefully manufacturers will deploy these mechanics so that it will not be just an ambition anymore, but a reality, where you can go into any shop and buy any device in the Internet of Things space and it works inside of your home.”
