Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, has expressed strong confidence in the All Progressives Congress (APC) achieving a sweeping victory in the upcoming local government elections slated for Saturday, 21 September.
Speaking at the grand finale of the party’s campaign rally held at Ndubuisi Kanu Square, Owerri, the governor addressed a large gathering of party supporters and candidates for various elective positions.
He firmly stated that the APC’s popularity, particularly at the grassroots level, coupled with its people-oriented policies, would ensure a resounding success at the polls.

“The APC has worked hard to connect with the people through meaningful policies. With your support and our commitment to delivering on our promises, victory is assured,” Uzodinma declared.
He emphasised the importance of unity within the party ranks, urging members to rally behind the leadership and candidates in order to secure a comprehensive win.
He also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for endorsing local government autonomy, a policy that the Imo State government has embraced.
According to the governor, this autonomy will strengthen local governance, reduce poverty, and alleviate the cost of living for the residents.
Reflecting on the delays to the local government elections, which were initially set for 2021 but postponed due to insecurity and banditry in the state, Uzodinma assured the electorate that this time the election would be conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner.
He also extended an olive branch to opposition parties, urging them to engage constructively and use the elections to democratically express their preferences.
“If you have grievances or believe in other visions, Saturday’s election is your chance to cast your vote. Let’s have a peaceful and fair process,” the governor added.
During the rally, the APC’s national chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, addressed the candidates, encouraging them to give their best in the upcoming elections.
He noted that their selection as the party’s flag bearers should inspire them to serve diligently. “You’ve been chosen among many; now go and make the party proud,” Ganduje remarked.
Party member Solomon Ihemadu, speaking to our correspondent, reiterated the APC’s readiness for the elections.
According to him, the campaign efforts have been thorough, and the party is fully prepared to engage in the democratic process.
Ihemadu also affirmed that the APC-led administration remains committed to improving rural governance, particularly if it emerges victorious in the local government elections.
Ijeomah Arodiogbu, the APC’s National Vice President for the Southeast, was also present at the rally.
He voiced his optimism, predicting that the APC would secure victories in all 305 INEC wards and 27 local government areas across the state.
He also called on opposition parties to follow the guidelines set by the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) and maintain a peaceful atmosphere during the elections.
With the local government polls just days away, all eyes are on Imo State as the APC and other political parties prepare to test their popularity at the grassroots level.
