The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed that parts of the Presidential Villa and over 60 percent of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, are experiencing power outages following the vandalization of a 132-kilovolt underground cable.
In a statement released on Friday by its spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, TCN revealed that the incident occurred around the Millennium Park axis of Abuja.
The vandals reportedly stole 40 meters of 1×500 mm² XLPE conductors from two 132-kV transmission lines.

“The vandalised 132kV underground cable transports bulk electricity to TCN’s 132kV Central Area Transmission Substation, which supplies power through eight distribution feeders to AEDC for onward delivery to customers in Central Area and environs,” the statement read.
TCN disclosed that its engineers have been deployed to repair the damaged cables. However, the incident has caused widespread outages in several areas, including Maitama, Wuse, Jabi, Life Camp, Asokoro, Utako, Mabushi, and parts of the Presidential Villa.
Earlier, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) had attributed recent power outages in the FCT to faulty 132-kilovolt lines between Katampe and the AT5 Central Area Transmission Station.
Efforts are ongoing to restore power supply to the affected areas.
